Situated within one of the densest districts of Vienna the project proposes a new public green space within a typical city block. The projects main aim is therefore to define an articulated hierarchy between public, communal and private green spaces.

The newly created public park is planned not only to serve as a green heart for the Neubau district but also as the central circulation space for the whole block. In contrast to the generous central green space, the historical patterns of long, narrow and U-shaped courtyards at the perimeter are utilized for communal courts. These provide a more intimate atmosphere and act as a threshold between the Public Park and the individual flats.

Already now the site is frequently used for vegetable gardens, a characteristic that is planned to be reinforced by providing planting space along a meandering threshold between public and communal parts.
